Missed opportunity for Lorient Country.
When Lanester (city) signed the Ya d'ar brezhoneg charter two weeks ago, the regional councillor responsible for linguistic policy, Jean Pierre Thomin, presented the various points of the new policy in favour of Breton language, which had been voted unanimously by the Regional Council two years ago.
Within the framework given by this project and due to negotiations on the contracts between countries and regions, an opportunity was opened by the Regional Council that suggested to integrate the linguistic policy into these contracts.
Only two countries out of the twenty six countries that make up the administrative region did it...
Unfortunately, the last meeting of the Town Council of the Lorient Country confirmed that Lorient Country did not wish to retain the proposal from the Regional Council.
It is all the more strange that Ploemeur et Lanester have just officially committed themselves in favour of a dynamic linguistic policy and that Lorient, which has been committed since 1992, is about to sign the Ya d'ar brezhoneg charter.
Therefore, it is to the least regrettable that the town representatives did not take advantage of the offer done by the Regional Council to define an actual linguistic policy for Lorient Country.
This deliberate choice more or less challenges the benevolent words that they had previously had in favour of the linguistic policy. This choice to say no is an regrettable missed opportunity. MVPL's Committee Board.
