Dear Mr Moffatt

Thank you for your letter of 25 July to the First Minister and deputy First Minister. We have been asked to reply.

The Ministers very much share your concerns regarding the safeguarding of members' funds at the Presbyterian Mutual Society (PMS). They met with the Prime Minister, Gordon Brown in London on 17 June when he agreed to set up a working group with representatives from HM Treasury, Department of Finance and Personnel (DFP) and Department of Enterprise Trade and Investment (DETI) to bring forward a series of proposals to reach a solution.

Following this, the First Minister and deputy First Minister attended a meeting chaired by the Chief Secretary to the Treasury on 16 July. Also in attendance was the Minister for Finance and Personnel, Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Investment, the Secretary of State, and the Economic Secretary to the Treasury.

At this meeting the terms of reference and membership of the group were agreed.

It was also agreed that Ministers would meet again in the second week of September.

Yours sincerely

LINDA MacHUGH PPS/First Minister

CAROLINE GILLAN PPS/deputy First Minister»
