The Island has been rocked recently as the United Kingdom government released a stream of initiatives which seem set to alter the existing status quo.

As the Isle of Man faces its biggest crisis for a generation Manx people looking to their political leaders and politicians got a clear indication today of what to expect.

The House of Keys sitting for the first time since members returned from their three month break had just one (fairly anodyne) question about a sewage plant down for answer!

The Island has been rocked recently as the United Kingdom government released a stream of initiatives which seem set to alter the existing status quo.

The latest UK move the Brits have unilaterally revised a long standing tax receipts agreement which will lose the Isle of Man hundreds of millions of pounds over the next few years.

Across the Isle of Man business interests, pressure groups, trade unions, internet forums and ordinary citizens are articulating their concerns. However their anxieties are not mirrored by political action from the Islands premier elected chamber and the House of Keys had a `quiet opening session' for 2009/10.
