NEWS FROM THE CELTIC LEAGUE MANN: YOU DON?T KNOW WHETHER TO LAUGH OR CRY! The Isle of Man Constabulary broke their statistical ?purdah? yesterday and finally gave a number for the spate of burglaries (and attempted burglaries) on the Isle of Man in the last few weeks. Something the Celtic League has suggested: see link. Unfortunately no one had kept the Isle of Man Minister of Home Affairs up to speed with this changing . In Tynwald, in answer to questions, he was not releasing the figures (already released) for operational reasons! You don?t whether to laugh or cry. Is it ?Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?? or ?Carry on down the Cop-Shop?. Even rank and file police officers must be ruminating on that WW 1 saying ?Lions lead by Donkeys?. What is really worrying now is not the ongoing spate of burglaries but the mindless deference shown by politicians and elements of the media to this level of incompetence. This type of ineptitude in any other aspect of public life would be given a sound drubbing. However, an Island that applauds when other public sector workers are vilified for perceived shortcomings looks on meekly as the hierarchy in the police get a ?free pass? One is minded of that quote from Marcellus in Shakespeare?s Hamlet ?there?s something rotten in the State of Denmark??for Denmark read Mann!
