The Celtic League has determined at its recent AGM that it will apply for formal Non Governmental Organisation (NGO) consultative status within the United Nations. The League is already recognised on an informal basis for consultation by some national, regional and international bodies. However, it was felt that 'formal' NGO status would facilitate input into the consultative conferences of several key United Nations committees.

Celtic League General Secretary, Rhisiart Tal-e-bot, said that the application process for formal NGO status can be protracted. He will report back on progress at the next AGM.

In a related structural development, the Celtic League is to press for the establishment of an independent Celtic Youth Council (CYC), to represent the interests and rights of young people from the six Celtic nations of Alba/Scotland, Breizh/Brittany, Cymru/Wales, Éire/Ireland, Kernow/Cornwall and Mannin/Isle of Man at an international level.

The General Council will be circularised with a resolution to this effect within the next few weeks.
