EIRE:/IRELAND: CASH BOOST FOR TEACHING OF IRISH ABROAD

In excess of €700,000 is to be spent by the Irish Government to support and develop the teaching of Irish abroad this year.

The money will be provided to approximately 40 third-level colleges and universities in the US, Europe and further afield, who are providing Irish language and Celtic Studies programmes within their own institutions.

News of the funding boost was given by The Minister for Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs, Éamon Ó Cuív last week.

The money will be provided via the Irish Language Fund (Ciste na Gaeilge).
