Lorient/An Oriant on 28.11.06: Communiqué from the Ligue Bretonne des droits de l'Homme LBDH (Breton Ligue for Human Rights)

New sentencing record for France in Strasbourg

The European Court pronounced on 28th November 2006 three judgements against France for breaching of the European Convention for Human Rights. France has already been sentenced 77 times since the beginning of 2006.

France − that defined itself as the country of Human Rights − has beaten its 2003 record, when it was sentenced 76 times.

The Breton Ligue for Human Rights is delighted about these sentences, because they show under a new, revealing light France's uncommon pretension to teach others − all over the world − how to be truly democratic.

The Breton Ligue would like to remind everyone that on 26th last September, the second Chamber of the European Court sentenced France unanimously (i.e. seven judges included the French judge) for breaching of article 5, section 3 (right to freedom and safety) of the aformentioned Convention in the Gérard Bernard case.

This activist spent almost three years on remand. Besides, the Breton Ligue for Human Rights (LBDH) points out that six requests from Breton activists are being studied by the European Court for Human Rights.

On behalf of the LBDH.
