The Audiovisual Superior Council (Conseil Supérieur Audiovisuel) has recently decided who will obtain the new frequencies on the FM wave band.

In Brittany, only one station, Radio Kerne, managed to clinch one of the new frequencies on the wave band Kemperle. Arvorig FM, Radio Kreiz Breizh and Radio Bro Gwened were not successful in their endeavour.

The proposal of a new radio station called “Trégor-Goëlo”, on Kaouenn FM, was rejected. The CSA also decided that 30% of the Breton frequencies will be withdrawn.

In contrast the commercial radio stations, which are considered to be national radio stations, will benefit from the new developments and will get new broadcasting zones.

We have also noticed that the public radio RFBBI has been broadcasting fewer programmes in Breton (less than 5 hours a week.

Members of cultural Breton associations, such as Al Levrig, are beginning to wonder if the State will allow the Breton language other expressive outlets, without which the language will struggle to survive.

The Al Levrig Federation is an association that gathers about 30 other Breton cultural associations from the Trégor-Goëlo region. See website
