The Celtic League is OPPOSED to recruitment from the Celtic countries into the British Armed Forces and it goes without saying we are opposed to the recruitment of children as is the current policy of the United Kingdom government.
(Note the United Nations defines a child as anyone under the age of eighteen ? the Celtic League is a fully accredited UN NGO).
We cooperate with Forcewatch who have been running a very informative and lively campaign over the issue for several years.
In there latest circular they quote Liz Savill Robeerts MP saying:
?To Westminster?s great shame, even countries such as Zimbabwe, Iran and North Korea do not enlist children. The UK Government must put a stop to enlisting children and bring the UK into the modern world.?
They also cite a report by the Royal United Services Institute (no less) which argues for raising the age of recruitment (link):
However most moving is the video accounts of Wayne Sharrocks a young veteran recruited at 17 and badly injured in Afghanistan he tells of comrades killed and his struggle to adjust to civilian life. Here?s a link to ten short videos and also an article in the Huffington Post (link):
