Human rights worry as former Chinese security minister becomes INTERPOL head

Interpol the International Criminal Police Organisation is in the news again for all the wrong reasons.

It?s speculated that the appointment of a Chinese national (Meng Hongwei) to head the body could cause problems. (Here?s a link):

The appointment prompted Nicholas Bequelin, Amnesty International?s director for East Asia, to say:

?This is extraordinarily worrying given China?s practice of trying to use Interpol to arrest dissidents and refugees abroad.?

Celtic League have focused on Interpol in the past we first took an interest when the organisation eschewed it?s avowedly ?non political? remit to pursue Irish Republicans for the United Kingdom and Basques for the Spanish government.

We also probed its funding and account keeping and highlighted a documentary made about the political agenda that the organisation sometimes pursued made by award winning BBC journalist John Sweeeney (links):
