Ibrahim Halawa imprisoned in Egypt for two years now is pinning his hopes of release on an on application under Presidential law to the Egyptian government.

Mr Halawa, from Dublin, whose parents were from Egypt, was born in Ireland in 1995 and he was visiting the country in 2013 when he and his sisters got caught up in the unrest there.

The Irish Post has a report this week on the campaign to secure his release and also his emotional letter about his life in an Egyptian prison (link):

There?s more background on his plight in this Irish Times article published a year ago.

The Irish Times article sets out that the Irish government has been working tirelessly to secure Mr Halawa release.

However Ireland must respect Egypt?s domestic law and his best chance of release is via the Presidential Decree Law 140.
