NEWS FROM THE CELTIC LEAGUE Earlier this year in an article citing how the Isle of Man, through the action of its government, was turning into a ?cacotopia? (See link below ?Let?s get real?) we cited three ongoing issues: Applying for planning application for a toxic waste dump, this as far as we are aware, still has to be concluded, although the dump is now complete. We reported extensively on this (see links at celticleague.net) and understand the latest development is that not as much heavily contaminated toxic harbour waste as was scheduled to be removed was eventually transported to an inland dumpsite. More information may be revealed when Infrastructure Chiefs appear before a Tynwald select committee shortly. We also highlighted the decision of the Manx Police to go ahead with an awards ceremony at a time when burglars were running amok on the Island . The burglars are still at large and police bosses have stopped giving updates, obviously working by the old adage ?out of sight out of mind?. The Home Affairs Minister did at one stage seem to indicate arrests might be imminent but since then silence! Finally, the controversial decision by the Manx Health Minister and his CEO to trail half way round the world, during a time of supposed austerity to look at a model of health care in New Zealand! When pressed on the latter jaunt the Health Service CEO (who has just resigned citing personal reasons) told a reporter ?lets get real? ? quite! Celtic League understands that the antipodean connection continues: only in the last few days its been New Zealanders coming the other way (hopefully at their own expense) to tell hard pressed Manx Health Workers of the ?brave new world? of health care planned for the Island. It?s not only health service workers who are wondering when this zany situation will end!
