NEWS FROM THE CELTIC LEAGUE Members of the Mannin branch of the Celtic League met with colleagues from Mec Vannin earlier this week and agreed to progress an initiative to establish a National Commemorations Organisation. The principles outlined for the new group were as follows: Object: to set up an independent organisation to promote the memory of significant contributors to Manx Nationalism and Culture. (Both of historical significance and also significant personalities in politics, culture and history from our immediate past) First step: call a meeting under the auspices on MV and CL at suitable venue extend invitations as widely as possible At formative meeting: set up interim Committee to work on aims and objectives and constitution and consider name for the body. Suggested aim would be to: Maintain sites significant to the personality involved, place of birth, burial etc Publicise the work that they did via lectures publication of booklets/pamphlets and any other means. In discussion of the idea it was stressed that such a body would need to function independently and draw input from as wide a spectrum of National groups and individuals as possible.
