NEWS FROM THE CELTIC LEAGUE

The Celtic League have written to the Chief Inspector of Nuclear Installations asking if the UK government and nuclear industry have committed to meeting post Fukushima safety recommendations made by his Office without equivocation or caveat.

The text of the correspondence is set out below:

Mike Weightman
HM Chief Inspector of Nuclear Installations
and Director, Nuclear Directorate
4N.2 Redgrave Court
Merton Road
Bootle
L20 7HS

Dear Mr Weightman,

In the 2011 report by the UK HMI (Nuclear Installations) on the Implications of the Japanese Tsunami for the UK Nuclear Industry you set out a number of recommendations (both domestic and international) that the UK government and industry should endeavour to meet to ensure reasonably practicable improvements to the safety of the UK nuclear industry going forward.

I have read the subsequent report produced by your Office in 2012 but I am unclear if the commitments by government and industry given in their response to you meeting fully the safety recommendations you originally outlined.

For the avoidance of doubt can you confirm that the United Kingdom government and nuclear industry have will implement all the safety recommendations you set out in the 2011 Final Report without equivocation or caveat.

Yours sincerely,

J B Moffatt (Mr)
