NEWS FROM THE CELTIC LEAGUE

The Irish Republican prisoner Marian McGlinchey (Price) has been released from prison in Northern Ireland.

Mrs McGlinchey had been held in custody sine May 2011 when an earlier release on licence was revoked by the United Kingdoms Northern Ireland Minister Owen Paterson (see link BBC News 16 May 2011).

A wide range of organisations have campaigned and petitioned for her release for the past two years and during that period there were allegations that she had been placed in solitary confinement and had suffered abusive treatment.

The Celtic League was among the organisations that called for her release and for an inquiry into the way she was being treated (see links):

The Celtic League (DOI) also raised specific concerns about her detention in an all-male prison pointing out that this was a breach of United Nations rules on the treatment of prisoners (see link):

A number of republicans have been subjected to the almost `feudal powers' of incarceration granted to UK Ministers via the revocation of licence system.

Just days ago the Celtic League raised similar concerns to those voiced in the McGlinchey case over the treatment of Martin Corey (see link):
