MILITARY CADET FORCES UNCRC ASKED TO ACT

The Celtic League has written to the Committee on the Rights of the Child about the operation of child cadet forces. The move comes following a decision of the Celtic League AGM in 2012 (see below):

Dear Sir,

At its AGM in Brittany in October 2012, the Celtic League expressed concern about the operation of cadet forces and the militarisation of children. The text of the attached resolution was adopted;

This AGM: Aware of United Nations standards aimed at protecting young people from being militarised calls on the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child to investigate the operation by the United Kingdom of military cadet forces.

The League has previously communicated with governments and Children's Commissioners in Scotland, N. Ireland and Wales (see links):
