Kernow: Branch Opposition To Development Vindicated

Communiqué de presse publié le 24/12/11 12:10 dans Europe par pour

Plans to build a commercial site next to Perran Round in Perranporth, Cornwall have been rejected by Lys Kernow/Cornwall Council, the Kernow Branch have been informed.

The planning committee at Lys Kernow/Cornwall Council wrote to the Kernow Branch this week to tell them the news, following the rejection of the application to build a commercial water storage and distribution site to a commercial beverage production establishment.

Full details of the application can be found at:

(voir le site) (Application number PA10/0623).

The planning application received a number of objections, with many arguing that the development would have been too close in proximity to Perran Round - a Mediaeval Playing Place (plen-an-gwari) where religious plays used to be held in the Cornish language. The Kernow branch lodged an official objection to the application in December 2010.

Perran Round has a strong symbolic value for Cornish people in Cornwall and around the world, because it is closely associated with St Piran - Cornwall's patron saint. In addition, St Piran's Round is one of only a handful of examples of Cornish Plen an Gwari's left in existence. The site is therefore a tourist attraction for many people who visit Cornwall annually, contributes to the economy of the local area and should be placed on a more sustainable footing by the Council.

Acting Kernow Branch Secretary, Rhisiart Tal-e-bot, said:

Members of the Branch thought that an official complaint needed to be submitted when the planning application was heard about. Developers cannot be allowed to run roughshod over Cornwall's cultural heritage, as they have been allowed to do on too many occasions in the past. The branch is pleased that this application has been rejected.
