An incident involving the death of an Army Cadet which prompted the Celtic League to query the MOD as to whether previous tragic lessons had been learned has resulted in a man facing the Scottish courts this week.

Major George McCallum appeared at Inverness Sheriff Court this week to face charges under health and safety legislation. It follows a fatal accident enquiry into the death of Cadet, Kaylee McIntosh, 14 years old who drowned in a Western Isles loch in August 2007.

The allegations against Major McCallum involve failing to take reasonable care for the health and safety of people taking part. He made no plea and was bailed.

No date has yet been set for his next appearance in Court.

At the time of the tragedy the Celtic League raised concerns over the case and a similar cadet safety incident at Padarn Lake in Wales during which three air cadets died.

The MOD responded by saying that they regarded the safety of personnel as of `huge importance'.
