A Welsh student of Coleg Gwent, the Gwent college, had found an apprenticeship work, for his second year of a construction course, in an English firm. Even if his works takes place within the "border", he was told by the college to pay back the inscription fees (£800) and he was removed from college.

He called upon a member of the Welsh Parliament which intervened so that the college withdraws its application for repayment.

A spokesperson of Assembly Government specified that « to be accepted in training, a student must either be resident in Wales, or to have his employment in Wales ».

« This means that a person who lives and studies in Wales can follow apprenticeship even if his employer is based in England ». Thus this student will be able to continue his studies.
