CYMRU/WALES: MOD - WELSH LANGUAGE CONSULTATION

Rapport publié le 30/01/09 11:21 dans Cultures par Cathal Ó Luain pour Cathal Ó Luain

The Celtic League has welcomed a consultation into Welsh language policy carried out by the Ministry of Defence. However League General Secretary, Rhisiart Tal-e-bot, says the exercise could have been more well publicised (see below):

Dear Sir/Madam

MOD Revised Welsh Language Scheme Consultation

The Celtic League would like to congratulate the Ministry of Defence (MOD) on the publication of its public consultation document on the MOD Revised Welsh Language Scheme. It was useful and interesting for us as an organisation to read the comments received by the MOD during its consultation exercise, but we were surprised by the low number of responses received.

We appreciate that the consultation process closed on 10th October 2008, but we would nevertheless like to question the broadness of the consultation and to propose in the future that public consultations concerning the MOD and the Welsh language be more widely publicised and circulated. The Celtic League for instance actively campaigns for and seeks out issues regarding all of the Celtic languages, but we were unaware of the existence of the Revised Welsh Language Scheme consultation until after it had closed. We were therefore unable to contribute to it and would have been eager to have done so.

Consequently we would like to ask to be put on your mailing list to be contacted for future consultation exercises. The Cymru Branch Secretary of the Celtic League can be contacted at undebceltaidd@... and my own email address can be found below.

Many thanks in advance.

Yours faithfully

Rhisiart Tal-e-bot General Secretary Celtic League»
