"Congratulations and best wishes for 2009" League write to Scottish Nationalist Party (logo above)

The General Council of the Celtic League has written to wish the Scottish Nationalist Party (SNP) led Government a successful new year in 2009 and to offer congratulations on a successful year in office in 2008.

In the letter, the General Secretary (GS) of the League, Rhisiart Tal-e-bot, wrote:

«Although the UK Government and media have tried to show that the Scottish economy is doomed if the SNP pursues independence, we believe that this aim is the only possible solution to remedy the economic woes that Scotland has found itself in, time and again over the last 60 years.»

The League's GS went on to say:

«We can see that the SNP has worked hard over the last year to strengthen the Scottish economy in a number of areas, only to have their efforts knocked down by a still largely centralised UK Government that has only London and England at heart. We firmly believe that independence will undoubtedly fine tune Scotland's ability and resolve to deal effectively with economic shifts of the world economy, far better than it is capable of doing under a UK State administration.»

Dear First Minister Alex Salmond

Congratulations and best wishes for 2009

I am writing to you on behalf of the Celtic League to wish the Scottish Nationalist Party (SNP) another successful year in Government in 2009 and to extend our congratulations on the work that the SNP has achieved to date, while in office.

The General Council of the League feels that the SNP had a successful first year in office, «with a generally positive contribution to society on issues as wide ranging as Gàidhlig, nuclear weapons and the council tax.» Despite the current bleak economic forecast for 2009, we are confident that Scotland under the SNP administration will be capable of riding the current economic storm and emerging successfully from it.

Although the UK Government and media have tried to show that the Scottish economy is doomed if the SNP pursues independence, we believe that this aim is the only possible solution to remedy the economic woes that Scotland has found itself in, time and again over the last 60 years. We can see that the SNP has worked hard over the last year to strengthen the Scottish economy in a number of areas, only to have their efforts knocked down by a still largely centralised UK Government that has only London and England at heart. We firmly believe that independence will undoubtedly fine tune Scotland's ability and resolve to deal effectively with economic shifts of the world economy, far better than it is capable of doing under a UK State administration.

Congratulations once again and g'un robh math agad!

Yours sincerely

Rhisiart Tal-e-bot General Secretary"
