Celtic League asks the Isle of Man Government to come clean about companies registered in the Isle of Man which are (or have been) carrying out business within the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The Celtic League have asked the Manx government if it is taking any steps to monitor the activities of any companies registered on the Isle of Man which are carrying out business or trading in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

A ghastly tragedy is unfolding in that country with thousands of people killed, injured or displaced. There is a danger that the International community will allow a repeat of the Rwanda tragedy in the 1990s in which the Isle of Man was implicated due to companies registered there supplying arms to militia groups.

There are some on-line references to companies and individuals being linked to the Isle of Man and the Celtic League would like an assurance that the Manx government is being pro-active on the issue.

Previous queries to the Isle of Man FSC were inconclusive when it neither ruled in nor out possible Congo links (See related links below).

"The Isle of Man Chief Minister Mr Tony Brown MHK Government Offices Douglas Isle of Man

21 November 2008

Dear Chief Minister,

Can you advise if your government is aware of companies registered in the Isle of Man which are (or have been) carrying out business within the Democratic Republic of Congo?

In the case of Manx registered companies which have links to the DRC is the government taking steps to ensure that their activities do not in any way exacerbate the serious internal conflict in that country and the misery being caused to tens of thousands of displaced persons?

Yours sincerely,

J B Moffatt"
